Former PG sentenced to 17 years in prison

Criminal Court has sentenced the former Prosecutor General Muhuthaz Muhusin to 17 years in prison after being found guilty in an attempt to arrest the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom with a false court order.

Muhuthaz was found guilty of all three charges against him.

The charges against the former PG were charged with misuse of official documents, forgery of official document and conspiracy to carry out an act of terrorism.

Proceedings of the case:

• The former PG was charged with an attempt at illegal detention before it was changed to terrorism

• That charge that came under the penal code had a lighter sentence

• Muhuthaz pleaded not guilty to all charges

• The case was original presided over by Judge Ibrahim Ali

• The trial had scheduled witness testimonies as Judge Baree took over the case

• The trial began moving faster when Judge Baree took over
