State Electric Company (STELCO) has said that the changes that were brought for the electricity in the Malé City area prices would apply for the businesses only and the residential homes would have no changes to their electricity prices.
Media Coordinator of STELCO, Ibrahim Rauf told Sun Media today that the changes in the electricity charges would apply for businesses that use electricity above the 3000 unit mark. And the residential homes would have the price change that was brought in February.
He said that the company would be giving discounts for units below 600 if the oil prices are below MVR 8.00.
The newly introduced bands are:
• 600 - 3,000 Unit with a tariff of MVR 4.35
• 3,000 - 10,000 Unit with a tariff of MVR 5.75
• 10,000 Unit and above with a tariff of MVR 6.65
Units and tariff rate before the change:
• 0 - 100 Unit with a tariff of MVR 3.30
• 101 - 300 Unit with a tariff of MVR 3.35
• 301 - 500 Unit with a tariff of MVR 3.65
• 501 - Unit with a tariff of MVR 4.00
• 600 Unit and above with a tariff of MVR 4.35
The Energy Authority said that they have authorized STELCO to charge MVR 0.03 per kilowatt for every MVR 0.10 increase for the price of diesel going above MVTR 8.00.
STELCO has previously said that he electricity charges would be brought down for residential homes but now say there won't be any changes.
