Former football star and lawmaker, Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) has been elected President of Football Association of Maldives.
Tom – the only one to apply for the post – was elected to the top position during a yes-or-no vote held by FAM Congress on Tuesday.
He secured 19 of 21 votes, with only two voting against him.
24 clubs and associations registered with FAM had the right to vote in the election.
The Mahibadhoo constituency representative at People’s Majlis, who used to be one of the top strikers at both New Radiant Sports Club and national football team, chose former football star
Ali Umar and Mohamed Kaleem as his vice presidents for FAM Executive Committee.
Other members of the FAM Executive Committee in addition to Tom, Ali Umar and Mohamed Kaleem are, national football team physician and former member of FAM Normalization Committee – Ahmed Shakeeb, former national football team captain – Assad Abdul Ghanee, Mohamed Easa, Ahmed Zareer, Chairman of Eagles Sports Club and Naifaru constituency representative at People’s Majlis – Ahmed Siyam, and New Radiant Sports Club Board member Aishath Nazima.
