Opportunity to participate in Sun short story competition now open!

Opportunity for those interested in participating in “Sun” dhivehi short story competition for Ramadan “Ehsaharehgai” is now open.

30 short stories sent in for the competition will be shortlisted and published on “Sun Online” during the coming month of Ramadan.

The stories submitted need to be material that has not been published before, and needs to be between 1,200 to 1,400 words.

The stories need to be submitted in Microsoft Word format to the email address - [email protected].

The deadline to submit stories is 4 pm, June 2.

Marks for the stories submitted will be given by a panel of judges set up by “Sun”.

Head of the judging panel, Mohamed Amir Ahmed (Fares Amir) said on Wednesday that marks will be allocated based on nine segments. Which are:

1. Introduction – 5 marks

2. Title and composition – 10 marks

3. Individuality – 5 marks

4. Presentation – 30 marks

5. Presentation of characters – 10

6. Grammar – 25 marks

7. Historical authenticity – 5 marks

8. Dialogue – 10 marks

9. Moral of the story – 5 marks

The 100 marks given by judges will be converted to 70 percent. And the remaining 30 percent will be decided through SMSs sent by readers.

Opportunity to SMSs for the favorite story will be opened after all the stories are published.

7 days will be provided to send in SMSs.

The winner of the competition will win cash price of MVR 10,000, the runner-up – MVR 7,500, and the second runner-up – MVR 5,000.

Winner of “Ehsaharehgai” short story competition by “Sun” last Ramadan was Ali Muneez, the runner-up – Aishath Hassan, and the second runner-up – Aminath Fazna Rasheed.

The winner of this year’s competition too, will be provided the opportunity to write stories for Sun Online.
