The website and print of the daily news created by the old team of Haveeru daily, “Mihaaru” has been launched tonight.
The first issue of the newspaper were distributed to those who took part in the launching ceremony tonight at Central Hotel.
The Editor of Mihaaru News is the former Managing Editor of Haveeru, the 20-year veteran in the field, Ismail Naseer. Almost all of the Haveeru journalists have joined him on the team at Mihaaru.
The team has acquired new space for operations and gotten all the equipment.
Editor of the newly introduced Mihaaru, said that their objective is to impartially report on the major issues in the Maldives.
The journalists of Haveeru left the media outlet after they lost the guarantee that they would be paid by the three shareholders that took 75 percent ownership of the company after being ordered to stop all operations following an ownership dispute.
An official from the legal team of the other three shareholders told Sun Media that it is not acceptable for the former Haveeru team to issue a new newspaper and it goes against the court order.
On 31 March 2016, the Civil Court issued an order on Dr. Mohamed Zahir Hussain to temporarily stop all operations at Haveeru News without the participation of Farooq Hassan and Ibrahim Rasheed Moosa. With that order, the oldest news media outlet in the country came to a halt. And two days later, Haveeru Online website also went offline.
