Thirteen-month deadline given to complete islands leased for tourism

The cabinet has made the decision today to issue a deadline of thirteen months for the opening of tourist resorts which are half completed.

The President’s Office said today that this includes tourist resorts, tourist hotels, training resorts, transit hotels and city hotels which were leased for development from 2000 onwards.

The cabinet also made the decision today to constitute a national environment council to protect and sustain the environment for the current and future generations, improve environmental conditions in Maldives, make decisions on Maldives’ standpoint at international environment conventions, and to strengthen sustainable development of environment policies in Maldives.
