Lawyer: Papa cannot file complaint since Maafushi Prison is out of forms

Lawyer Mahufooz Saeed, representing the former Head of the Presidential Security, Colonel Ahmed Fayaz Ali Riza (Papa) who has been charged after the events that followed the Presidential Launch explosion, has said that his client could not file a complaint against the Maldives Correctional Service regarding the Maafushi Prison since the prison is out of complaint forms.

At the hearing today, lawyer Mahufooz said that his client filed complaints twice now and when requested a complaint form again, the Correctional Service informed him that they are out of complaint forms.

Mahufooz said that he himself, as a lawyer, has raised some concerns with the Correctional Service through a letter and a copy of the letter was sent to the Criminal Court as well.

Chief Judge presiding over the case, Judge Ahmed Rasheed ordered Mahufooz to submit another letter to the Correctional Service with the date and time passed since the original letter. And after that, the court would look into it and take appropriate steps.

Information Officer of the Correctional Service, Ahmed Lugman said that he can make a statement after looking into it.
