Jumhooree Party (JP) has said that murder cannot be prevented not due to lack of laws.
Speaking at a press conference, JP Leader Gasim Ibrahim said that the relevant authorities should be provided more means to prevent murder.
He said that a person can only be found guilty of murder if sufficient evidence exists, for which the Police Institution needs to be strengthened and provided modern equipment.
“The Constitution obligates evidence. Lack of evidence means a person cannot be sentenced. So we have to provide various modern equipments to the Police.”
He said that currently, 500 criminals are loose in the society due to lack of space in the prison, and court cases are prolonged due to lack of space and Judges in courts.
He also said that JP will do everything possible at the Parliament to prevent crime, and that the bill relating to the prevention of crime will be passed in September.
A total of 430 application forms to join JP were handed over to Gasim last night from Hulhumale’, Aa. Rasdhoo, R. Dhuvaafaru, R. Maduvvari, and Ha. Hoarafushi.
According to JP, 1000 forms had been presented to Elections Commission over the past three days.
