A large number of mobile phones that were being smuggled into Maafushi Prison has been seized and taken into the custody of the Maldives Police Service.
Police said that the phones were seized on board a ferry that takes prisoners to Maafushi in a special operation following intelligence information received by the Police.
The shipment that was seized today included 44 mobile phones, 36 chargers, 26 SIM cards, six earphones, four card readers, a USB cable and four perfume bottles.
The shipment to prison was hidden in the frame of a pallet.
The case is now being investigated by the Police.
