Civil Court has ordered Tropic Investment Private Limited to pay up MVR 23 million over failure to complete building the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) tugboat contracted to them back in 2010.
Project to build a tugboat for MPL was originally contracted to Center Enterprises Private Limited – which contracted it out to Tropic Investment with the agreement that they complete building the tugboat within a specified number of days.
The lawsuit was filed by Center Enterprises for to get the money needed to complete building the tugboat, as well as compensation for the loss.
Civil Court issued the verdict on May 5, after review that Tropic Investment had failed to complete building the bollard pull 17-ton tugboat contracted to them, and therefore was responsible for bearing the expense it would take to complete building the boat.
Court ordered that Tropic Investment complete the payment to Center Enterprises within three months. And to hand over the incomplete tugboat to them within 45 days.
