Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that they have started collecting information from state financial institutions as they investigate the major corruption and embezzlement scandal involving Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
President of ACC, Hassan Luthfy spoke to “Sun” on Monday and confirmed that the commission was currently collecting information from state financial institutions for the case.
Luthfy said that they had completed the investigation into corruption involving lease of islands for tourism; and were currently investigating where the corrupt money went.
He also said that they were also collecting information from abroad as they follow the money trail.
Luthfy said that though investigation into corruption involving lease of islands for tourism was complete, they would not send it for prosecution until investigation into the whole case was complete.
Both former Vice President and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor and former Managing Director of MMPRC, Abdulla Ziyath – were questioned in the case weeks ago.
It was Maldives Police Service that first started the investigation into the corruption scandal.
They had even finished their investigation and sent it for prosecution.
Prosecutor General’s Office announced that they would make their decision on whether to go ahead with prosecution when ACC completes their investigation and sends them their report.
