MP Amir: Purpose of the state is not to make criminals

MP for the Kudahubadhoo constituency, Ahmed Amir has said that the purpose of the state is not creating criminals and fund making criminals.

Speaking at the certificate awarding ceremony for the inmate that completed the courses at Maafushi Prison organized by the Maldives Correctional Service, MP Amir said that the government wants to do everything they can to bring down crime.

And he said that the main spirit of the laws made at the Parliament is not punish someone, but to try and keep people away from criminal activities.

MP Amir said that it is commend worthy that the Correctional Service has established an institute to teach knowledge and skills to those who go to prisons.

Amir said that Correctional Service is, to their ability, providing a way for inmates to gain an income.

The MP for the Kudahuvadhoo constituency noted that even now, inmates have been given the opportunity to work at Thilafushi through the projects of the Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC).
