Addict slashes wrist after Drug Court stops treatment

Police have started looking into a case of a drug addict who slashed his wrists after Drug Court kicked him out of treatment program for violating rules of the treatment program.

Police media official informed “Sun” that police received complaint of a man causing self-harm at around 10:50 am, Sunday. And that he had now been taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

IGMH media official Zeenath Ali Habeeb confirmed that they treating a man who cut his wrist with a razor blade. But said that the extent of the injury was not clear at the moment.

An official from Drug Court told “Sun” that they stopped the treatment because the man had violated the rules of the treatment program. And that court had therefore for the 2-year jail sentence issued earlier by Juvenile Court be enforced.

According to law, jail sentences issued to those who Drug Court provide opportunity for drug rehabilitation and treatment program will not be enforced if they successfully complete the program. And their criminal record will be wiped clean.

Those who fail to successfully complete the program, however, will have to serve their jail sentences.
