Retired Judge from Singapore selected to work as member of National Inquiry Commission tasked with the investigation of the change of government on the 7th of February this year in the Maldives is set to arrive in Malé on the 21st of this month, reports the President’s Office.
Abbas Adil Riza, Spokesperson of the President’s Office said that the Commission would start its work when the Singaporean retired Judge joins the Commission as Co-Chair.
With the retired Singaporean Judge, the Commission would consist of 5 members. They are, Ismail Shafeeu, Dr. Ibrahim Yasir, Dr. Ali Fawaz Shareef, Ahmed “Gahaa” Saeed, and the retired Judge. Of these, Shafeeu, Yasir and Fawaz were the original members of the Commission. Gahaa Saeed was later included as a nomination from Mohamed Nasheed who resigned from presidency on the 7th of February and caused the change of government consequently.
A retired judge from Singapore was arranged to sit in the Commission after the Commonwealth, vouching for Mohamed Nasheed, requested the Maldivian Government to change the composition of the National Inquiry Commission.
According to reports, Ismail Shafeeu is set to visit the Holy City of Makkah for an umrah soon, and during his absence, his chair would be filled by a temporary member, whose name has not yet been announced.
