HRCM inspects “Fiyavathi” for cruel, inhumane treatment

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has made a visit to the newly built orphanage in Hulhumalé, Fiyavathi to inspect if there are any cruel or inhumane treatments towards the children.

HRCM said today that the purpose of their visit to Fiyavathi today was to inspect if the children in the care of the state there are being treated fairly and to inspect the state of the employees and the overall state of the orphanage.

The HRCM said that a report based on their inspection would be sent to the orphanage as per their regulation.

And said that a detailed report of the inspection would be prepared and shared with the orphanage, Ministry of Law and Gender and other relevant institutions and meet with the Gender Ministry to discuss and observe a follow-up on the things noted in the report.

The orphanage is built on the empty land next to the Lale Youth International School by the free aid of Mahmood Al Khaja of UAE.

The orphanage, with the capacity of 129 children, houses children of both genders separately at 12 rooms. The orphanage was officially opened on 17 February 2016.
