Housing Ministry has said that the biggest challenge to the flat eligibility survey inspecting the living conditions of the flat applicants is being short-staffed.
The ministry began the flat eligibility survey in March.
State Minister of the Housing Ministry, Hassan Rasheed told Sun Media that the surveys are still ongoing but the progress is slow due to being short-staffed.
The surveys were originally planned to be completed before the month of Ramadan. State Minister Hassan Rasheed said that the project may not be completed by then.
“We are trying still to complete the project as soon as possible. Before, it was scheduled to be completed before Ramadan.” State Minister Rasheed said.
The Housing Ministry has previously said that they are working to visit the houses of applicants and a lot of information has to be collected before the survey.
Over 15,000 people applied for housing as the deadline closed on the government’s housing project according to the Housing Ministry.
A total of 15,650 people applied for the flats being built in Hulhumalé. While 7,384 people applied for flats in the first category, 8,241 people applied for the flats in the second category with three families applying for the third category.
Housing Ministry has said that 440 flats are being built in the first category for people registered in Malé City. And 330 flats are being built for people from the atolls living in Malé City for a long time with 330 flats for landowners who have land difficulties.
