Maldives Correctional Service has said that there is no camera installed at the toilet in the jail cell of the former Head of the Presidential Security, Ahmed Fayaz Ali Riza (Papa).
Information Officer of the Correctional Service, Ahmed Lugumaan told Sun Media tonight that the lawyer of Ahmed Fayaz is lying and there is no camera installed in the toilet.
“That is a lie. In the toilet there is no camera installed.” Lugumaan said.
When asked if the Correctional Service would take action against lawyer Mahufooz lying in court, Lugumaan said that the necessary steps would be taken by the legal team of the Correctional Service.
Lawyer Mahufooz drew the attention of the Judges at the hearing of the trial of the former Head of the Presidential Security charged with intentional obstruction of a law enforcement officer and obstruction of justice by saying that there is a camera installed at the toilet of his client’s jail cell.
And so the state prosecutor requested that officers of the Correctional Service be summoned to court to clarify.
The Judge’s Bench in the case said that a hearing would be held on Thursday where Correctional Officers would be summoned to court and inquired about the allegations.
A number of people have been claiming recently that there are cameras installed at the toilets of the jail cells. And so the family of Ahmed Ashraf, Lhaviyani Hinnavaru, charged with intimidating, has said that there is a camera installed at the toilet of his cell. And Haamid Ismail, charged for his involvement in the MMPRC corruption also made the allegation.
