Police: We must stop children from being pressured into committing crimes

Police said that they had been observing children being pressured into committing criminal offenses. And that everyone needed to roll up their sleeves to protect them.

In statement released by Maldives Police Service on Tuesday, on occasion of Children’s Day, they noted that innocent children were becoming victims of abuse - sexual, verbal and physical.

And that actions of some were putting future and wellbeing of children of Maldives at risk.

“…We need to roll up our sleeves and stop our children from being victimized and being coerced into committing criminal offenses,” read the statement.

Police noted that children were the key to building a bright future for the country. And that it was the responsibility not just of the authorities, but of each and every Maldivian citizen to protect the rights of the country’s children.

“Neglecting the children and paying no respect to their rights will surely put the future of the whole community at risk,” read the statement.
