Muli school teacher in custody of Immigration

An expatriate teacher in Meemu Muli School has been brought to Malé City in Police custody and handed over to Immigration.

Information Officer of the Maldives Police Service, Ismail Ali told Sun Media tonight that the teacher was brought to Malé and handed to Immigration to execute an order by the Controller of Immigration as his constitutional right.

It is an Indian teacher by the name of Chandrasekaran. It is unclear the grade and subject he teaches.

The Information Officer of Immigration, Hassan Khaleel told Sun Media that the teacher from Muli School was brought in as part of an investigation by the Department of Immigration and Emigration of which the details cannot be released at this time.

“Regarding a case under investigation by Immigration that Muli School teacher was brought through the Police to the custody of Immigration. (We) cannot release any further information on the case.” Khaleel said.

Principal of the Muli School, Ahmed Naahid told Sun Media that the teacher was sent to Malé City under the orders of the Education Ministry and any further information on the matter can be released after a filing a form under the freedom of information act at the school.

So far there has been no word from the Ministry of Education on the matter.
