Corrections extend Ex-President’s medical leave

Maldives Correctional Service has said that they have extended that the medical visit of the former President Mohamed Nasheed in the UK.

A statement issued by Corrections tonight said that Ex-President’s leave was extended by a period of 30 days from 19 April and would expire on 18 May.

The medical leave was extended after the former President sent in the relevant documents after saying that he needs a surgery.

The former Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham said that the extension was originally made on 17 April but since the former President’s legal team is saying that he does not need surgery on 18April, it was decided to be revoked.

And so the Home Minister, Umar Naseer made a request at the Correctional Service to review that decision.

President Nasheed left for the UK from Colombo, Sri Lanka on 21 January 2016.
