MNDF vows severe reprehension for officers caught looting expatriates

Maldives National Defence Forces (MNDF) has vowed severe reprehension against two of its officers caught yesterday looting a number of Bangladeshi expatriates in the house where the latter lived. Two officers were caught threatening the expatriates and robbing their money.

In a Press Release issued today, MNDF said that Lance Corporal Ali Ibrahim, 26, Aaraamuge, Lh. Hinnavaru and Private Hussain Mahir,23, Finifenmaage, L. Mundoo were the two officers caught looting foreign workers. According to the Press Release, the incident occurred yesterday evening in a house located at Fareedhee Magu.

Of these two, Ali Ibrahim joined MNDF on 2nd November 2004, and Hussain Mahir was recruited on 17th June 2008.

“We are working with the Police to take the severest steps against these two in accordance with the laws”, said the statement issued by MNDF.

According to the workers living in the looted quarters, the two officers who were caught and an additional unidentified person had entered their residence a number of times during the Ramadan and robbed them of money amounting to MRF 30,000. Last night also the three were involved in the robbery, although one of them escaped as the others were being arrested by the police.
