Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has called allow the Labor Day protest that was planned for today.
Police have said that they would not allow any public demonstrations today. And so the HRCM issued a statement this morning saying that Article 31 of the Constitution has granted the freedom to public demonstration against the challenges in employment.
The statement said that the right to peaceful protest has been granted to every citizen by the Articles 27 and 32 of the Constitution and it is a responsibility of the state to allow the execution of this right.
HRCM also called to the people to exercise their right to express themselves.
And called to the journalists covering public demonstrations to report true information, responsibly. And called to security forces to refrain from using excessive force that is uncalled for by the situation in the event of dispersing the crowds.
