Man injured after failed suicide attempt

A man has suffered serious injuries after jumping from a building in Male’ on Saturday, in an apparent suicide attempt.

The man jumped from second floor of H. Rivimaage and suffered the injuries while police and Maldives National Defense Force officers were working on serving the man’s life.

The man had bounced off a mattress filled with air that the officers had placed on the street to cushion the man’s fall, and had hit is head on the ground.

The man had been unconscious when taken to ADK Hospital.

Suicide is a criminal offense under the Penal Code, and carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison.

Police have said that they are investigating the case.
