12 Sri Lankan prisoners serving sentences in Maldivian prisoners were transferred over to custody of Sri Lankan government on Sunday morning.
The prisoners were handed over to officers onboard Sri Lankan navy vessel “Shakti”, which came to Maldives on Thursday and left this Sunday, with the prisoners.
The navy ship which accompanied “Shakti” on the journey, “Sranimila” also left this Sunday.
The prisoners were handed over to Sri Lankan authorities by Maldives Correctional Services as part of the prisoner exchange agreement between the two countries.
The agreement was signed on behalf of MCS by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Hassan Zilal; and on behalf of Foreign Ministry by Assistant Director of Foreign Ministry, Samahath Zuhury.
