Police have said that the foreigner picked up by a small boat after being found stranded from Sh. Atoll ocean was trying to swim to another island after fleeing his employer.
The Bangladeshi expatriate worker was found at around 9:30 am, two miles outside Sh. Hiribandhoo.
Those on the small boat which found the man had picked him up and immediately taken him to Funadhoo Hospital.
Officials from Funadhoo Hospital had said that the man was not in serious condition, when “Sun” called to inquire about his health on Saturday.
Police reported on Sunday that investigation into the case so far had led police to suspect that the man had been attempting to flee his employer.
The Bangladeshi worker had had fled to Sh. Lhaimagu last week to escape his employer, and had made two other escape attempts after he was brought back from Lhaimagu.
Police have said that his employer filed a complaint with them regarding the escape attempts last Friday.
“From what we have found out so far, he was out on the ocean attempting to flee to another island,” said police.
The Bangladeshi man is employed to work at Sh. Kanbaalifaru – which is being developed as a resort.
