Corrections initiates house arrest procedure for Imran and Tholhath

Maldives Corrections Service has initiated the procedure to transfer the President of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla and former Defence Minister, Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu.

An Official from the Corrections Service told Sun Media tonight that two are being moved to house arrest to repair their units at Asseyri Prison.

The official said that the duration of the house arrest would be clear when it’s done.

Former Defence Minister, Tholhath is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence after being convicted of being involved in the unlawful arrest of the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, Judge Abdulla Mohamed during the Presidency of Mohamed Nasheed.

Sheikh Imran is serving a 12-year prison sentence after the court found him guilty of rousing the protestors at the May Day protest last year which led to vandalism and violence.

They were both charged with terrorism and both appealed their sentences.
