Deputy Education Minister Yumna Maumoon has resigned from the post.
An official from Department of Heritage informed “Sun” on Monday morning that Yumna – who had been in charge of running the institute had handed in her resignation. But did not give a reason for the decision.
Yumna has resigned amid rumors that government was about to demolish the part of the palace inside Sultan’s Park which previously hosted the national museum, and rebuild it.
Yumna was appointed Deputy Education Minister on July 1, 2014.
Yumna is niece of President Abdulla Yameen, and daughter of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Her twin sister – Dhunya Maumoon is the current Maldivian Foreign Minister.
