Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has said that the problem resulting in water being cut off to a large part of Male’ has been resolved, and that water was now being provided at high pressure.
Managing Director of MWSC, Ibrahim Fazul spoke to “Sun” on Monday and said that the company had been able to reach a permanent solution to the problem late Sunday night, and that water was now being provided at high pressure to Male’ – meaning that water will be available to taller buildings.
MWSC said on Sunday that the electricity outage on Saturday had damaged bow hauls and distribution pumps, meaning that water may not be able to reach apartments that lie above third floor.
They had said earlier that they were trying to resolve the issue by nightfall. However, they were unable to resolve the issue, but were able to offer a temporary solution and provide water for two hours – from 9 pm to 11 pm.
The water outage had pushed up the demand for mineral water bottles - leading to stock of mineral water diminishing, and some shops charging higher prices - reminiscent of the water crisis the capital city suffered through in 2014.
