Woman unconscious for over 20 days after going under anesthesia

Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has said that the L. Gan woman who was taken to the hospital after failing to regain consciousness after going under anesthesia for a minor surgery in

L. Gan Regional Hospital was still unconscious, 20 days on.

IGMH information officer Zeenath Ali Habeeb told “Sun” on Saturday that Maseeha Abubakr, 39, from Gulalaage in L. Gan was still unconscious, and that doctors had not said anything more about her condition.

“She is still hooked to the ventilator,” said Zeenath.

Maseeha was taken to IGMH on February 14.

Maseeha’s brother, Ibrahim Zaki, 54, said that she was operated on to remove a nodule in her armpit.

Zaki said that doctors had informed the family that Maseeha’s brain was swelling, and that her condition was deteriorating.

They suspect doctor’s negligence in the case.

A formal complaint regarding the case has been filed with police by the family.
