HDC advise vigilance against flat scams

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has advised of scam calls being made in their identity selling flats in Hulhumalé.

A statement from HDC today said that the caller in these scams talk about a draw to win a flat or a row house and asked to transfer an amount of money as a down payment.

The company said that while the flats and row houses they lease are pre announced, under certain regulations, the names of those getting flats and row houses are gazetted and publicly announced.

The statement said that the HDC would never call and asked to deposit money to a certain back account.

And so the HDC advised to be more vigilant about scams and not give any information to the callers and report them.

A number of scam calls are being made recently pretending to be different government and public institutes. While the authorities are investigating these calls as a serous matter, the advise to the public is to remain vigilant.
