People’s Majlis representative for South-Galolhu constituency, MP Ahmed Mahloof has been has been transferred from jail to house arrest.
According a tweet from official police Twitter handle, Mahloof was arrested by police last Friday for allegedly hitting a police officer during clashes between demonstrators and police during opposition protest.
However, police said during Mahloof’s arraignment the next day that he was arrested due to suspicion that he had helped hide a fugitive from law.
As soon as Criminal Court announced his release, Mahloof claimed his innocence and told the press that police could not show any proof that he had hit a police officer, or helped hide a fugitive.
“Things escalated that day because a police officer started spraying pepper spray at people’s faces without any just cause. I did not attack a police officer. They can show no proof claiming otherwise. And they are saying I hid someone. I did not know anyone hid during the protest,” said Mahloof.
