ACC: Working to recover MMPRC money that went out of country

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that they were working on recovering the money that went out of the country in Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption case.

Speaking during the ceremony held on Sunday to release their annual report for 2015, Vice President of ACC Muawiz Rasheed said that investigation into MMRC corruption case was now 99 percent complete.

“…At the same time, we have discovered that some money transactions involved money going out of the country, with information we gathered based on bank transactions. We are communicating with some international agencies to recover the money,” said Muawiz.

He said that ACC had frozen bank accounts of people they suspect are involved in the case.

“…We are doing what we should, based on what we discover. For one thing, we gathered information of suspicious accounts and froze them, during the first phase of investigations itself.

At the same time, some accounts are still frozen based on our work with Maldives Police Service,” said Muawiz.
