Umar: DO not invite others to interfere in domestic disputes

Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that foreigners should not be allowed to interfere in domestic disputes within the country.

He made the statement on Saturday, during the special ceremony held in Gn. Fuvahmulah to celebrate Huravee Day.

He said that Malabars came to Maldives and occupied the country because of two treasonous Maldivians. That it was a lesson to all Maldivians. And that the current generation of Maldivians should be true and loyal to the country.

“In order to do what is best for the country, we must always remember that disputes amongst ourselves are not things that others should be invited in for,” said Umar.

Umar said that inviting foreigners to interfere in domestic disputes spelled the end of peacefulness within the country.

The minister said that the young generation of Maldives needed to clothe themselves in the characteristics of Al-Sultan Ghazi Hassan Izzuddin (Dhon Bandarain) – the national hero whose victory over Malabars – from southern India - is celebrated during Huravee Day.

It has been celebrated since 1980.

Malabars came to Maldives on December 20, 1166; 185 years after Bodu Thakurufaanu led the successful revolution against Portuguese occupation.

Malabars came to Maldives after two of Al-Ghazi Hassan Thajuddin – Mohamed Shamsuddin and Ahmed Muhiyyudin sent a letter to Ali Raja – pledging support if he came to Maldives to occupy the country.
