Search abandoned for man lost at sea while diving for parrotfish

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coastguard has ended their search and rescue operation for man lost at sea on February 21 while diving near G. A. Kooddoo for parrotfish (locally known as land’a).

The man lost at sea is Abdul Rasheed Ali, 32, from Bodudhunburuge in H. Dh. Kulhudufushi.

Coastguard said that they had searched a 100 nautical mile area from the point where he got lost, but had found no sign of him.

MNDF Coastguard ships – Noorudheen and Ghaazee, Kurangi helicopter, MNDF Southern Area Coastguard Squadron harbor craft, and MNDF divers carried out a special search and rescue operation for Abdul Rasheed.

Abdul Raheem was wearing a black diving suit, black fins and a pink mask when he got lost.

According to those who went diving with him, he was last headed in the direction of G. A. Vilingili.
