Resort occupancy down, guesthouse occupancy up 3.9 percent

Statistics show that resort occupancy has gone down compared to January, 2015, and that guesthouse occupancy, on the other hand, has gone up 3.9 percent.

Resort occupancy rate had been at 73 percent in January, 2015; but 70 percent in January, 2016.

Meanwhile, guesthouse occupancy in January, 2015 had been at 28.2 percent. The figure increased to 32.2 percent in January, 2016.

Statistics show that 108,396 tourists visited Maldives in January, which is a boost of 11.7 percent, when compared to the 97,073 tourists who visited the country in January, 2015.

The most number of tourist arrivals in January was from China. 23,241 Chinese tourists visited Maldives in January, 2016 – an increase of 13.5 percent when compared to January, 2015.

There are 323 guesthouses across Maldives with over 4,000 beds.
