Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Interim Chairperson and Hulhuhenveyru MP Reeko Moosa Manik has said that MDP will not hesitate to confront the Police and MNDF if necessary, and that MDP will overthrow the current government in the near future.
Moosa made this statement at Usfasgandu, while addressing the participants of the weekly Friday-afternoon march. MDP holds this march on the main streets of Male’ to call for an early election.
“We will confront the Police and MNDF. Even if they kill us, we will not end this sacrifice for our children,” Moosa said.
MDP’s march commenced from Usfasgandu at around 16:45.
As roads were made free of vehicles today to mark Environment Day, MDP used two wheelbarrows to carry their sound systems. Protesters who led the march were holding posters showing the vulnerability of the environment.
Today’s march was led by Reeko Moosa, and joined by former Home Minister Hassan Afeef, former MNSL Chairman Mohamed Shareef, and members of Parliament of MDP.
Protesters first went out to Majeedee magu calling for the resignation of the senior officials of the government, then on to Sosun magu, Medhuziyaaraiy magu, and back to Majeedee magu. President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik was mocked by the protesters.
