Leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Ahmed Thasmeen Ali has said that DRP has begun the journey into the future with newfound energy.
Thasmeen said at last night’s meeting, which was attended by DRP members from various islands, that the fact that the no-confidence motion against Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid was not passed by the Parliament is a victory for DRP, and thanked all MPs who voted in favor of Shahid.
“We won the vote on Shahid by far. So I congratulate Shahid, and thank all DRP MPs and independent MPs for their votes. I especially thank the members of MDP who voted in favor of Shahid,” Thasmeen said.
He went on to say that former President Nasheed had made several promises over the three years of his administration, but failed to fulfill them, leaving the citizens of the country in dismay. He said that people have lost their confidence in politicians, and that politicians need to regain this trust.
“We will not make any promise that we cannot live up to. My words match my actions. You can take a look at my track record, and you will see this. The reality we face today is that Maldivians do not trust politicians,” Thasmeen said.
DRP Deputy Leader Ibrahim Shareef (Mavota) noted DRP’s efforts to brighten the future for the Maldivian people, and said that DRP has proved that that party has a bright future ahead of it.
Last night’s was the meeting by DRP attended by most number of people, since the creation of PPM. Three foreign groups were also observed participating in the meeting held at Artificial Beach.
