2 arrested in Thinadhoo Powerhouse fire released

Two individuals arrested after a fire burned Thinadhoo Powerhouse to the ground – plunging the whole island into darkness for a week – were released Thursday afternoon.

The two are: Assistant Manager of Fenaka Corporation – Thinadhoo Branch, Ibrahim Ahmed and Powerhouse driver, Mohamed Yameen.

Police media official informed “Sun” that police had obtained the information they needed from the two suspects, and had not further need to keep them under police custody.

An additional suspect was also arrested in connection to the case; a 40-year-old Maldivian man.

Court has granted 15-days for remand of the third suspect.

Fire burnt down Thinadhoo Powerhouse on January 26 – damaging the three engines used to power the island, beyond repair.
