State ordered to pay over 78 mn to Vimla for construction of housing units after tsunami

Civil Court has ordered State to pay over MVR 78 million to Vimla Construction for their work on housing units built in three G. A. Atoll islands after devastation left in the wake of tsunami in 2004.

Civil Court issued the order after Housing Ministry failed to pay Vimla their payment for their work in building 298 housing units in Maamendhoo, Nilandhoo and Dhaandhoo in G. A. Atoll – housing units built at State expense.

Verdict issued by Civil Court in the case reads that State had not denied that Vimla had completed the work that had been assigned to them, and that State had not presented any evidence to prove that State did not have to pay the money to Vimla.

State has been ordered to pay the money to Vimla within three months.

Project to provide housing to victims of tsunami in G. A. Atoll started off with financial aid from Saudi Fund.

Vimla was contracted to build the housing units within 14 months in 2008.

However, Vimla failed to complete construction within the given time period and the housing units were later built by military officers.
