Land has been awarded from K. Thulusdhoo to 50 families from Lh. Maafilaafushi.
The lands were awarded to the families of Maafilaafushi as compensation after the island declared as an uninhabited island. The decision to evacuate the island was made in 2010 after the population of the island did not grow and remained underdeveloped.
A draw was help yesterday for the lands to the families of Maafilaafushi.
Housing Ministry say that seven families of Maafiilaafushi was previously awarded flats from Hulhumalé. And some families of the island was awarded land at Lh. Naifaru, Hinnavaru, N. Manadhoo, H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi and Hanimaadhoo.
The government is currently working on moving the MNDF military base in Lh. Madivaru to Maafilaafushi and an MNDF training school is being conducted at Maafilaafushi.
