MIRA begins search at four businesses in Kulhudhuffushi for tax evasion

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has started a search investigating four businesses in H.Dh. Kulhudhuffushi for tax evasion.

A statement issued by MIRA today said that the investigation into the Oevaali Shop, Sufuraa Mathi Café, Oevaali Construction and J.A. Rentals began this morning at 11 a.m. MIRA said that all four businesses are registered to Jaufaru Ali, Vaguthu, Kulhudhuffushi.

MIRA is searching the businesses under the search order issued by the Tax Appeal Tribunal.

Article 36-A of the Tax Law says that MIRA must request a search order from the President or the person in the position of the President at the Tax Appeal Tribunal if there is any suspicion, proof or evidence of tax evasion at any business.

This is the second round of search being conducted by MIRA this year. Earlier this month, MIRA search some of the businesses at Gn. Fuvahmulah. So far, eight cases have been sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office to pursue criminal charges in tax related crimes.
