United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Miroslav Jenca has concluded his visit to Maldives, leaving the country on Monday.
He was seen off from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) by Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
Jenca visited Maldives upon invitation of Maldivian government, meeting high-ranking government officials including President Abdulla Yameen and Foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon.
Foreign Ministry is yet to reveal any details about what was discussed during the meetings.
Jenca’s visit comes at a time when Maldives is under intense scrutiny for the political situation in the country.
Countries such as UK and America expressing concern over prison sentences meted out to key political figures such as former President Mohamed Nasheed, and most recently - the 12-year jail sentence meted out to Adhaalath Party leader Imran Abdulla over what he allegedly said during a speech.
