Nasheed requests extension of additional 2 months

Former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed has requested an extension of two months to the leave from prison allowed by government for him to get his back surgery done in UK.

Media officer for Maldives Correctional Service spoke to “Sun” on Wednesday and said that a letter requesting for an extension had been received by them last Monday.

Hassan said that Nasheed had requested for an additional 60 days and had attached some medical reports along with the letter.

He said that they had not yet made a decision, but that it would be made soon.

The request comes after Correctional Service sent a letter to Nasheed’s father asking that details of Nasheed’s medical expenses be sent to them before February 14.

Nasheed is yet to send the details.

Nasheed, who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison, traveled out of the country on January 21 after he was given permission to travel abroad for medical care for a period of 30 days.

Government said that Nasheed would be allowed additional time of up to 45 days if need be.
