A meeting of the National Council of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was discontinued last night, after several members in the meeting raised points of order claiming that the meeting was being conducted in contravention to the party’s constitution.
Members who objected to the continuation of the meeting said that items on the agenda for the meeting were contradictory with the party constitution.
Discussion on the proposed constitution of party branches, the constitution of regional offices, and the constitution of women’s branches were among the items on the agenda for the meeting chaired by Chairperson Moosa “Reeko” Manik. However, an official from MDP Office said that as the meeting was discontinued last night, no decision had been made on any of these matters.
Last night’s meeting, held at Faashanaa Maalan at Dharubaaruge, began at 9:30 and was discontinued at 11 o’clock. The secretariat announced that a new meeting to discuss the same issues would be held in accordance with the party constitution.
