President nominates name for NIC

President Abdulla Yameen has sent a name for National Integrity Commission (NIC) membership, for People’s Majlis approval.

Presidential nominee for NIC is Ahmed Ameen from S. Hithadhoo.

According to law, five members need to be appointed to NIC by the President, under the counsel of People’s Majlis.

There are currently four NIC members – who were given approval by People’s Majlis on October 13, 2015.

National Integrity Act has authority over four State institutions; Maldives Police Service, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Maldives Correctional Service and Maldives Customs Service.

Duties of NIC includes probing into violations of law or suspicions of violations of law by officers working in law enforcing institutions.
