Hearing on terror trial against Adhaalath Party leader Abdulla Imran scheduled for Sunday morning has been cancelled upon request of State prosecutors.
Prosecutor General Aishath Bisam spoke to “Sun” and said that the hearing scheduled for 10 am was cancelled upon request of PG Office.
In answer to rumors that State prosecutors no longer wanted to press charges against Imran, Bisam said that PG Office had made no such decision.
“Today’s hearing was cancelled upon PG Office’s request. But we have not made the decision to rescind charges against him,” said Bisam.
Imran was charged under Anti-Terror Act for inciting violence with his speech during opposition rally on May 1, 2015.
Imran has denied the charges against him.
State has presented a video clip of his speech during the rally, a video clip of a truck breaking through police barricades, and a video clip of a demonstrator attacking a police officer.
State prosecution has not been able to present any evidence showing Imran giving specific instructions to be violent.
