Chinese New Year has been celebrated in K. Maafushi with colorful events.
The events held in Maafushi on Monday to celebrate Chinese New Year is the first of its kind organized by Tourism Ministry, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Guesthouse Association of Maldives (GAM) as part of Visit Maldives Year campaign to promote Maldivian tourism industry.
MMPRC said that the purpose of celebrating the Chinese cultural event was to increase the number of Chinese tourists that visit the country.
China is even now the largest supplier of tourists to Maldives. The government therefore gives priority to maintaining the Chinese market.
MMPRC expressed hope that celebrating such Chinese cultural events would encourage Chinese tourists to visit Maldives to celebrate them.
Events held to celebrate Chinese New Year include water sport activities and a special dinner during which the lion dance was performed to the beat of Boduberu, Bandiya dance, Maafathi dance and Chinese cultural performances, as well as a special lucky draw.
The dinner was attended by Chinese ambassador to Maldives, Wang Fukang, who invited Chinese people to come see the beauty of Maldives.
MMPRC said that the event received great reviews from the Chinese tourists.
