President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that he is “heartened” that the country has started receiving the fruits of the agreements signed in his visit to Japan.
In a special message conveyed by the Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon at a special feast at Dharubaaruge celebrating the first ever Japanese Embassy in the Maldives, the President said that he hopes the new embassy would strengthen the ties between the two countries.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives I take this opportunity to convey my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the Government and the people of Japan for the generous assistance and support extended to the Maldives over the years. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Abe and the leadership of Japan to further strengthening of our relations at both bilateral and multilateral levels.” The President said in his message.
Speaking at the ceremony, Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon said that she believes that opening of a Japanese Embassy in Maldives is the result of strengthening relationship between Japan and the Maldives due to President Yameen’s visit in 2014.
