Police have started investigating the invalid court order issued for President Abdulla Yameen’s arrest.
Speaking during a press conference held at Iskandhar Koshi on Sunday, Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Riyaz said that a group of people travelled from Male’ to an island at around 3 am Sunday morning and tried to issue a court order with a judge working in a magistrate court in an atoll.
“And they left the invalid court order on the street of Male’, tried to hand it over to police officers and make it look like police were trying to arrest President Yameen,” said Riyaz.
Riyas said that, at the same time, activists belonging to an opposition party were preparing to go to president’s residence. And that they tried to make it look like police and military officers were trying to arrest President Yameen.
“And former Maldivian president, Mohamed Nasheed of G. Canaryge called a high-ranking military officer and said that a court order had been issued for president’s arrest. And urged the officer to make the arrest,” said Riyaz.
Police said that no arrests had been made yet regarding the case. And that more details surrounding the case would be revealed later.
