Former Maldivian Defense Minister Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim – who is currently serving an 11 year prison sentence – was taken to Male’ for medical attention on Sunday.
Nazim’s brother, former State Trading Organization Managing Director Adam Azim confirmed that Nazim was taken to Male’, but said that he did not know the nature of his illness.
“Correctional Service did not inform us Nazim has been taken to Male’. I can only confirm that he has been taken to Male,” said Azim.
Correctional Service is unavailable for comment on the matter at the moment.
Nazim, once a trusted member of President Abdulla Yameen’s Cabinet, was sentenced to prison on March 27, 2015 after court found him guilty of possession of a dangerous weapon.
Nazim has denied that the pistol found from his apartment was his, maintaining that it was planted to frame him and banish him from the political scene.
